Botox for Forehead Lines, Frown Lines (11s) and Crow's Feet in Boca Raton

Botox for forehead lines, frown lines (11s) and crow's feet in Boca Raton is booked at Sol Luna Aesthetics as the Triple Threat, listed at $650 for a 30 minute appointment on the online booking menu. Results typically settle in 3 to 7 days and usually last about 3 to 4 months. Results vary.

These three upper face areas are often treated together. This guide from Sophie Lanter, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, a doctorally prepared, board-certified family nurse practitioner and the founder of Sol Luna Aesthetics, explains how each area is treated, what the FDA labels say about dose and why the forehead is usually planned with the frown lines. A DNP is a doctoral degree in nursing, not a medical (MD or DO) degree.

What causes forehead lines, 11s and crow's feet?

All three are dynamic lines, which means they form when a muscle contracts again and again. The muscles, as named on Sol Luna's wrinkle relaxer page, are:

  • Forehead lines: the frontalis muscle, which raises the eyebrows and creates horizontal lines.

  • Frown lines (11s, glabellar lines): the corrugator and procerus muscles between the brows, which pull the brows down and together.

  • Crow's feet (lateral canthal lines): the orbicularis oculi muscle around the eye, which creates lines at the outer corners when you smile or squint.

A wrinkle relaxer temporarily relaxes the treated muscle so the skin above it creases less. It does not add volume. Lines that are etched in at rest, or caused by volume loss, may need a different or added treatment, such as hyaluronic acid filler, which is discussed at your consultation.

How many units of Botox are used for each area?

The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists these recommended doses:

Area

Botox Cosmetic label dose

Injection points on the label

Most common side effect in label trials

Frown lines (11s)

20 Units

5 sites

Eyelid drooping (3%)

Crow's feet

24 Units

3 sites per side (6 total)

Eyelid swelling (1%)

Forehead lines

20 Units, given with 20 Units for frown lines (40 Units total)

5 forehead sites plus 5 frown line sites

Headache (9%) and brow drooping (2%)

Your dose may be different. It depends on your muscle strength, your anatomy and the product chosen, and it is set by your provider at your appointment. Units do not convert between brands, so a dose for one product cannot be applied to another.

Why is the forehead treated together with the frown lines?

The frontalis raises the brows, while the frown line muscles pull them down and together. The Botox Cosmetic label directs treating forehead lines together with frown lines to minimize the potential for brow drooping, and the Xeomin label gives the same instruction.

This is one reason Sol Luna offers the three areas as a package. The Triple Threat treats the frontalis (forehead), glabellar (frown lines) and crow's feet in one appointment, so the three areas can be planned together at one visit.

Which brands are FDA-approved for these three areas?

Sol Luna offers five wrinkle relaxer brands: Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify. According to their FDA labels:

  • Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin are approved for frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. The Xeomin label lists a maximum of 64 Units when all three areas are treated at once (20 for frown lines, 20 for forehead lines and 24 for crow's feet).

  • Dysport, Jeuveau and Daxxify are approved for frown lines. Using them for the forehead or crow's feet is off-label, which your provider will explain if it is recommended.

How much does Botox for the upper face cost at Sol Luna Aesthetics?

The Triple Threat is listed at $650 for a 30 minute appointment on Sol Luna's online booking menu; the website shows it as a package without a price. A $150 surcharge applies to all men's wrinkle relaxer treatments, because men typically need about 1.5 times the amount of neurotoxin, according to the wrinkle relaxer page. Related upper face options on the menu include a Brow Lift and Bunny Lines, each listed at $200. Every new patient starts with a $125 consultation, which goes toward treatment if you treat the same day. For every area and price, read Botox Cost in Boca Raton.

When will you see results, and how long do they last?

Sol Luna's FAQ notes that wrinkle relaxers typically take 3 to 7 days to settle, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) says injections usually take less than 15 minutes. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says results for lines and wrinkles last about 3 to 4 months, and sometimes longer. The product labels advise against repeat treatment more often than every three months.

Results vary from person to person. Read How Long Does Botox Last? for more on timing.

What are the risks of Botox in the forehead and around the eyes?

According to the AAD, side effects tend to be mild and temporary and are mostly caused by the injections: swelling, redness, soreness, bruising that lasts about a week if it happens, an uncommon mild headache and, rarely, a temporarily droopy brow or eyelid when a nearby muscle is affected. The label figures in the table above show how often eyelid drooping, eyelid swelling, headache and brow drooping were reported in trials.

To lower the chance of product moving, the AAD advises not to rub or massage treated areas and to wait two hours before strenuous activity. All botulinum toxin products carry an FDA boxed warning that the effect may spread from the injection area and cause symptoms hours to weeks later. Get medical help right away if you have trouble swallowing, breathing or speaking after treatment. The Botox Cosmetic label also says it should not be used where there is an infection at the planned injection site.
